Sheffield Star report on 4/5 players leaving : Wed Oct 02, 2013 5:54 pm
A shake-up is under way in Sheffield Eagles’ Championship-winning squad with players heading for the exit. Nev Morrison will join Doncaster and fellow winger Vinny Finigan is off to Batley Bulldogs who Eagles beat in the Grand Final.
Prop forward Colton Roche is expected to be confirmed as a Featherstone Rovers player and hooker Pat Smith has joined relegated York City Knights
Try-scoring centre Tom Armstrong has also been linked to Championship rivals Leigh Centurions.
Armstrong has scored 19 tries this season. He was on loan at Leigh in 2011 and a move back would fit in with his studies at Manchester University.
Coach Mark Aston is not rushing to making signings with a number of young players coming through the Eagles development system.
“We won’t change too many players, there are some who will leave this year but we will bring through young players,” he said.
The 2013 squad will be together for the last time tonight before starting the end-of-season break.
Finigan and Morrison both struggled to hold down a regular first team place this season and had spells out on loan.
Morrison, 23,will be making a return to the Keepmoat where he scored nine tries during a loan spell in 2011 from Hull. He was a regular for much of last season but has made only five starts this year.
Finigan, 24, has a record of nearly one try every two games in 53 games for Eagles since joining from Bradford Bulls.
Eagles trio Mitch Stringer, Andrew Henderson and Alex Szostak have been named in the Scotland 23-man squad for the Rugby League World Cup 2013, which kicks-off later this month.
