I have been following the threads about the ‘Barlow affair’ on both sites and am amazed at the puerile comments coming from a few posters about not visiting Sheffield so they lose gate money. I would like to point out to these people that in 2006 Halifax were very close to liquidation and Rugby League supporters nationwide helped out by visiting Fax for their home games. I amongst other Sheffield Eagles supporters did this more than once, so to read these comments makes me very angry, but will not deter me from supporting my own club when they play in Halifax next season. Grow up and get on with watching and supporting Rugby League.
Once again the point is missed. I am a rugby league supporter and if Sheffield were in financial dire straights and needed a helping hand, I would contribute to a collection every single time, as I would if any other club needed the same, however in this instance it is completely different.
Someone else said, how would we feel if the boot was on the other foot, well the boot has well and truly been on the other foot many times for halifax (Micky Higham, Brad Davies etc) and did we go bleeting to the press.. No....
I have always said that we should not have played him, I think we could have still done the job without him, but I am not on the coaching team and perhaps we couldnt have done the job if we only had 16 players to play, who knows.
But we did, it was okayed by the RFL, so played him we did.
That should have either been the end of it, or we should have called Aston, and Sheffields bluff and told them to go swivel.
I dont know exactly how much Halifax have paid Sheffield, but whatever it was it was too much.
The decision not to go to Bramall lane next season is a personal one and one I fully intend to stick to.
