Great Idea I have been there once for a football match its a nice compact stadium but that could be the problem according to wiki a football pitch is normally 105 x 68 metres whist a rugby league pitch is normally 112-122 x 68 metres so touch and go whether it would fit and i would suggest that it would not be allowed on health and safety grounds if you bundle someone into touch they could collide with an advertising hording and be badly injured. Its a pity only 12 mins on the train and apparently there are some decent real ale pubs in the town including the Thornbridge owned coach and horses attached to the ground

There is a reason - it's not even in South Yorkshire.

True enough but it is the home ground of Sheffield FC so it carries the Sheffield name in a zig-zag sort of way.

To get down to more serious matters, does anyone know what is happening re the proposed new stadium. I read last week that Richard Caborn was masterminding it, which fills me with no confidence whatsoever.

Also I read in today's Star that a last minute attempt to save DVS is being planned. Hmmmm.

I saw a couple of week back an interview with Richard Caborn which he said they had around a quarter of the money for the whole project (£10 mill) and more interested parties were about to come on board so there is some hope at least

As for DVS i think the writing is on the wall, the council are clearly desperate to get rid of it sadly

It's even more out of the way than bawtry road!, i suppose it could be an option but I doubt if it would be a popular one TBH

I love stocksbridge's ground but i would prefer us to be at sandygate road if it's going to be a stadium of this sort of size purely because it's closer to the city

Dreamers. The place costs far more to run than the revenues it earns. Unless somebody fancies chipping in the shortfall, it's doomed.

Meanwhile, the Huntington Stadium, which is about the same age, is being razed and rebuilt. No-one batting an eyelid there. Nice little stadium but the dressing rooms aren't big enough for eighteen blokes to get changed - let alone all the staff we cart round with us these days.

I don't think anyone here would bat an eyelid either if DVS were to be demolished and rebuilt as a facility fit for purpose. For all the moaning that Tony Minichiello has done about the demolition, neither he nor Jessica Ennis has, as far as I can see, done a thing about "saving" it.

The new stadium at York will be used by York City as well as the Knights or so my brother in law, a York City season ticket holder, tells me.

Where will Eagles play if the proposed new development doesn't go ahead?
