Andy Kelly - Charity Walk for Mens Cancer : Tue Mar 03, 2009 2:04 pm
During April former Wakefield Trinity player and Coach Andy Kelly and ex Rams player Robin Jowitt will be undertaking a Liverpool to Leeds canal walk to raise awareness and funds for the mens cancer charity Orchid.

37,000 men will be diagnosed with a male-specific cancer this year;
each man a husband, father, son, brother, grandfather and friend.

Prostate cancer is now the biggest cancer threat to men in the UK one man dies every hour from this disease alone.,

Andy was diagnosed with cancer in 2005 but has thankfully been in remission for the last four years so this cause is close at heart for him.

The 127 miles cross-Pennine canal is the longest in Britain and climbs to a height of 488 feet above sea level. Andy, who also played for Hull Kingston Rovers and England, is hoping to complete the walk over a four day period and is already racking up the miles in preparation for the task.

Starting in Liverpool the route will take Andy via Leigh, Wigan, Chorley, Blackburn, Burnley, Skipton, Keighley, Bingley, Shipley, Kirkstall & Armley before arriving at Granary Wharf in Hobeck Leeds.

Please get behind Andy's walk and help make a success of his efforts to raise a little money and a lot of awareness for Orchid.

If you wish to sponsor Andy please visit his official site at
www.bmycharity.com/V2/letstackleit where you can click the fundraising link and make a direct donation to the cause.

If you wish to arrange a collection of donations from friends, family and workmates then you can request a donations form from Andy at:
3of6@ntlworld.com

Many Thanks

I'm bumping this up again as April is drawing near and the lads will soon be embarking on their walk.

Without being a pain can I urge you all to take the time to visit?
www.bmycharity.com/letstackleit
And pledge whatever you can towards this much underpublicized cause.

Rugby League is a tough game played by tough men and this is a walk to raise awareness of the problems MEN suffer from this disease.
For that reason this is the perfect forum on which to place this appeal.

Too many of us men are reluctant to visit a doctor when we're ill especially when it's in embarrassing places. This often leads to curable cancers going undiscovered for too long. Many of us know someone who has been affected by this and we all live thinking that it won't happen to me.

Unfortunately it can happen to anyone!

Please donate something to this worthy cause.
