Northampton vs Widnes : Wed Feb 10, 2010 10:06 pm
At 2:30pm on the 6th March Northampton Demons Rugby League Club take up the titanic challenge of professional outfit and former Super League Club Widnes Vikings for the first of their pre-season friendly of 2010.
Entering only their fourth year of existence the towns local Rugby League side turned many heads last season by going undefeated and becoming National summer Champions and with this title has come the opportunity to mix it for 80 minutes with one of the oldest and most prestigious names in the Rugby League World. By been able to land such a name for a friendly speaks volumes of the hard work by all of the clubs local volunteers over the last few years. Coach's Smith and Campbell Commented, "Widnes are a professional outfit with huge history and to take them on is going to be the hardest match of our players lives but also the most fun we've all ever had. Professional outfits do not turn up at your door step every day and we know we can take our chance to shine. We will have been in training for over a month just for this one game. Everyone is fully aware of the task in hand and are also aware that Widnes have come to take a look at some of our players for the future, but the squad is bouncing and will be ready to do the town proud. Being professional means Widnes should have the upper hand in most area's but everyone within this club knows the side plays without fear and prepares to win every time they pull on the Northampton shirt." As part of the day Widnes and hopefully Harlequins RL will be running coaching sessions for the junior players at the club. It is hoped that the whole day will make the town of Northampton stand up and take notice of their National Championship winning club. Further details on the day will be announced so keep logging onto www.northamptonrl.co.uk Open age training for the club's 2010 summer season starts at the clubs Rushmills grounds at 7pm Wednesday 3rd March. |
