i know the whitehaven area will pull through this awful time, it has inormous charachter and community spirit.

I know it can sometimes be a cliche, but messages such as those posted on hear really do help, you never realise how much until this happens.
Everyone is still dumb with disbelief that this could happen in our wonderful towns/villages.
Wenesday was a day we will never forget.
It may takes days or weeks to fully sink in, especially for those closest to the events.
The best of human kindness is truly exhibited when the few need the help of many.

If we all do our bit, we will move on..eventually

Living in Belfast, I've always had a soft spot for Whitehaven RL as, technically, they are my "local" professional team. I've visited the town a couple of times when on holiday, but never for a match as it's a difficult place to reach on Sundays - but I hope to put that right soon. Deepest sympathy to everyone caught up in this week's events, and particularly to the friends and family of Garry Purdham.

I didnt get to hear about the shootings until quite late on in the day.. Rob Purdham is the only person I come into contact with from Whitehaven through our after match chats and social do's at our club.He is a thoroughly decent lad and I have no doubt that Garry was cut from the same cloth. Theres not much to add to other posts on here apart from the fact, that in our own way down here in the South, through our links with Rob we can at least know a little of how you must all feel .Rob is on compassionate leave from Quins right now and our thoughts are with him and his family.... but be assured ..the minutes silence held before our game today with Crusaders will be heartfelt..as will the words written in the book of condolence afterwards...

After reading all the posts on here it shows what a great family the Rugby League Family truely are.

A tragic and devastating time.

My thoughts are with all affected. The scary thing is that it could have happened anywhere.
