Cackamallagate inquest : Sun Apr 17, 2016 9:40 am
With hindsight, why do you think we're where we are? I'm curious to see how much diversity of opinion there is.

Some wrong turning points for me were...

Building for the Future, and the focus on 'potential' in 2012. That signalled Rovers was probably not going to be a great place for a player to to be in the short term, and because players have such short careers that was a big issue. Also fans don't have the patience, Sheriff and Peterson were not the new Sam Tomkins and Sean O'Loughlin, and it all kinda culminated in that 6-84 game, and the uncertainty that followed. Basically we lost our momentum.

This season's recruitment - not necessarily a reflection on individual players, but as a whole it didn't address the issues that needed addressing.

The 'different' approach to pre-season, 2015-16. I don't know what it was, but we hit the ground stumbling and have yet to properly recover.

I don't want to be too negative - we've had Dave's Derby Dash, Erasure and a new stand along the way, but we are now very worryingly bad at rugby.

I'm a fan who didn't cry out when some of the young lads were let go but looking into it more as I didn't really follow the 19s it seems were replacing them players with much the same on more money Shaw been an example is Minns any better than Hallet Guzdek is playing really well yet we've messed around in that position and let him go Holker not good enough yet is playing for Hull under23s Ollett seemed to established himself yet let go I've got no problem with players getting released but we just seem to replace them with a West Yorkshire version on more money

If yesterday teaches us anything, it's that we can't just trundle through the season waiting for the Middle 8's to save our sorry backsides. In some ways yesterday's defeat was the best thing that could have happened, as because our 'oh campo will be back, and Kelly will find his form' are by no means a given, and that 17 that turned out yesterday may be the only thing between us and the championship. If as thornley said last week that the Catalans performance was a wake up call, they now need to get up, get dressed, get their arses into gear and play some rugby like their lives depended on it, because in some cases their careers do!

I was furious yesterday. Calmed down a bit now, but what this club needs to be first and foremost is 'honest' to the fans. Let's get all this shizzle out in the open. Webster quoted he can't protect certain players now, and Hudge has quoted about smoking out the 'bad apples'
Right if that's the case WHO are you talking about, WHAT is going on and WTF are you going to do about it.
If it is just empty words then fine, my respect and support for this club will be severely tested if that's the case, and I may say probably the same from other fans.
Time for honesty and finger pointing and the release of some contracts, even if it's going to cost a bob or two is now what is required.
Time to be strong is now Mr Hudgell and Crossland!!

More a case of hudge blowing smoke up the fans' asses I think than smoking out the bad apples

A cackamalla is defined as "the clenched fist posturing position of a Goose before excrement exits its anus"

The reason I know is that Hull 2524 told me and he has the insider knowledge on everything Hull KR as well as Avian toileting habits. Believe me, you couldn't make it up.

Right, time for a serious response to Mild Rover's thread question.

For my part, I believe our current plight this season is 100% down to the players on the pitch. Before some of you jump down my throat, let me elaborate.

Those players - some are good enough for SL, some are good enough but out of form (Albert Kelly for example), some are injured, some are not good enough (Dixon, Horne, Tilse, Marsh, Clarkson), others are just simply too inexperienced.

Collectively our players are good enough on their day, but overall too inconsistent and inexperienced to manage out close games. Also:

-They lack 80 minute intensity and they lack leadership on the pitch.
-They are too collegiate and nobody is getting in their faces on the pitch or behind the sticks trying to raise their passion and their speed.
-They keep making basic errors and giving away field position, because they are lacking in confidence.
-They don't trust or believe in one another despite what they say and we hear and they don't know what their individual strengths and responsibilities are.

Above all, nobody is putting their hands up to say, follow my lead, except Blair after Chester's sacking and Shaun Lunt against Leeds. These 2 players alone have demonstrated in recent weeks the attitude and effort to be taken out on to the park and deployed for the entire 80. Others need to follow their example.

Directors will set the tone and expectations of the club, coaching staff will devise the plays and the gameplan and players will execute it. The latter ain't happening. We're back to one out rugby, with no support play, no alternate running lines and no creativity. With no attack to speak of, we have to rely on defence to win games and we haven't recruited defensively peerless individuals.

Finally, how many times are we going to write on here that we are underusing Sio in matches, before someone creates plays and a gameplan designed to capitalise on his strengths.

PROUD TO BE A ROBIN!

Re: Cackamallagate inquest : Sun Apr 17, 2016 3:35 pm
If possible I would retain the following. It would cost a fortune to settle contacts ect, but if it could be done I would keep.

K Sio
J Mantellato (didn't realise how important he is to us)
I Thornley
A Walker
S Lunt
M Blair
G Horne
C Clarkson
K Larroyer
J Donaldson
J Green
B Cockayne
J Greenwood
G Lawler
R Mulhern
R Shaw
W Oakes

So that's 17 players, at least 11 new signings needed (or academy players promoted), drastic as it seems, this does really need doing. Have an extended full on pre-season giving time to gel. Wigan did this just as Ian Millward left, had a season of mediocrity thus building a solid platform they now have.

Has anyone else any solutions on how to get us out of this disaster we are currently in.
