I assume Hull have signed the deal so as to stop us getting him if he does play well this year. It means if we do like him and want him next year FC will be due a signing on fee.

do you think it is to do with his salary, if Hull have him on contract and are paying some part of it next season, this would keep Rovers outlay down?

I think it's much deeper then that. He's part of the generation who had rugby players going into schools to help extend the image of the game.
Unfortunately he had Sean Long teaching him English.
