Widnes didn't have the best of luck with 4 injuries and ending up with no subs. (Nearly as bad as ourselves against St Helens when with no subs we got another injury and played the game out with 12.)
A very dull first half looked like it might conclude 0-2 but Rovers suddenly found another gear and it was 10-2. Widnes had blown a couple of guilt edge chances early on which was helpful.
We looked to be coasting but Clarkson was deservedly sin binned for a needless spear tackle and while short Widnes scored twice to lead 10-12 and suddenly the alarm bells were ringing. The turning point came when Rovers got a penalty to make it 12-12 whilst 3 fresh men were waiting to come on including the returning Clarkson. Widnes with their injuries had no such luxury and from then on there was only one winner.
Rovers played some great stuff in the final 15 minutes the final try was a delight.
McGuire was superb with his deft passes and kicking game, Blair strong running and tackling and Carney like an extra forward and a couple of tries. It all ended up fine in the end.
Pretty much exactly how I saw it. I thought Dudson looked strong for them until his injury, and if Wellington Albert hadn’t been injured on his first carry, he might have been a handful - jeez, he can move for big lad (at least once).
Massively biased and I’d be outraged if it was allowed against us, but I though Child could have let Carney’s behind the back pass go - it was only slightly forward and scored high marks for artistic merit, imo.
