MIKE SMITH- THE BEST CENTRE HULL HAS EVER MADE!

Re: Squad for 2018 : Mon Sep 11, 2017 8:10 pm
done all that before , awarding generous contracts to average players, its a business not a charity, need to be fairly ruthless if finances are available we need to spend wisely on upper end players in order to maintain superleague status ,otherwise dogfight again, not taking anything away from the tremendous effort of the current squad its just life at the top level

No better way than to celebrate promotion than with a 'not good enough, get rid' thread. I'm all for ruthless pursuit of success at the first team level, but we can be gently diplomatic for this bunch of lads, surely?

We've got the foundations of a decent squad. Now that it will be playing next year in SL we probably need to trim the depth (but not too much!) and look for 3 or 4 quality additions. Not superstars necessarily, just good players who'll buy in to what Sheens has planned.

He that gets hurt will be he that has stalled.

There's a battle outside ragin'.

It'll soon shake your windows and rattle your walls.

Re: Squad for 2018 : Mon Sep 11, 2017 9:14 pm
I think we will run with a squad of no more than 32 next year.

Keepers (26): Shaw, Minns, Heff, Carney, Oakes, Wardill, Salter, Atkin, Abdull, McGuire, Harris, Scruton, Kavanagh, Jewitt, Johnson, Mulhern, Masoe, Lunt, Lawler, Jubb, Clarkson, Blair, Addy, Donno, Cator, Greenwood.

Require (6): Fullback, Outside Back, Halfback, Prop, 2x Second Row

If they bring back licencing then there's no real rush for you to bin your current squad unless hudgell wants to be competitive with the top teams from the off.

As a minimum you need at least 2 decent back rowers, a half back and a full back plus cover for lunt and a couple of outside backs

1) New fullback
2)Carney
3)Minns
4)Heff
5)Another huge winger
6)McGuire
7)New half
8)Scruton
9)Lunt
10)Jewitt
11)Blair
12)New backrower
13)Lawler/Abdul (unlikely)

14)Masoe
15)Kav
16)Greenwood
17)New big prop

Would be my 17. Again I'm in camp of business not charity, can't afford for all this year to be for nothing if we're in same position as 2016 in 2018.

Are we back in 2006? Let's hope Tim Sheens spots your pearls of wisdom. Obviously we are doomed otherwise.

Interesting that you want a huge winger but only a big prop. Do they need any other attributes or is size the only criterium?

I think that's because our wingers are the ones who seem to take the five drives up before we kick :D
