No signings according to JP, st full cap.

Someone in the past couple of years has made some terrible recruitment decisions if your current squad is at full squad, could be really damaging in the short term for you.

The below kind of confirms my fears:

@jamiepeacock10: We have next to no cap room.
Exhausted every avenue possible to get round it.
We got with what we got and your support.

If true, that person is still in a job and needs to be demoted to take full responsibility for all future stationery orders only. Cancel the lease on the idiot's car as well.

It may be premature to talk down our chances with these players. That said, our actions in spending to full cap with only a thin, injury-prone, inconsistent and underperforming squad to show for it so far and a permacrock playmaker and captain sat in the stands taking a fair chunk of that cap without significant on field contribution is one of either:

Misinformed ignorance
Idealistic complacency
Unbelievable incompetence

....or a bit of all three. I'm sceptical about our chances this year in the middle 8s. I feel a bit like a member of the PLP about to undertake a vote of no confidence in the leadership.

I challenge the club and the players to prove to myself and no doubt others like me that I was wrong to doubt them. Finishing 1,2 or 3 in the middle 8s and avoiding the MPG is acceptable.

I just don't understand how we've no cap. Early season we were still looking for 2 major signings, Tony Williams being widely touted as one. That money never got spent.

The big problem is campeses contract as to get him under the cap last season he was only paid a third of it with the other two thirds added onto this seasons cap so it's a massive chunk for a player that isn't playing

Aye, it's easy to forget where a player's stock was when we signed them. Dixon was an England Knights starlet, who was going to be our first choice fullback. Now he has the odd cameo appearance from the bench as an impact winger. Campese was our talisman, who was rumoured to be interesting Wigan, but he's barely played since signing his new deal. We were absolutely desperate for a prop when we signed Tilse. Kelly, Thornley, Lunt, Allgood, Blair and Sio are likely on decent money.

On the other hand Rob Crossland suggested pre-season that we had a bit of space available, if the right player was available (iirc). Peacock said that Shaw's injury (and presumably Salter's) created an opportunity to make a signing. He's since said that the de-registration rules have changed, but hasn't explained in what way. And at the fans forums, it was said that options were being explored - maybe it was dependent on moving somebody on?

I'm not that keen on holding people to quotes - to mis-speak or get something wrong isn't a crime. But there have been mixed, or at best unclear, messages IMO.

Still this is where we are. Hopefully we can find a killer instinct from somewhere and make our (relative) quality tell against the Championship teams (who'll all be targeting us as the most likely SL scalp they could take), and catch one of the others off-guard. Fingers crossed.

Somethings not right at the club, most of the other middle 8 teams are strengthening, Salford somehow just fitted 2 NRL players under there cap, Leeds got Segeyaro, London got Soward, Leigh have added a couple, Chisholm to Bradford, Ogelsby to the giants.

We get David Thompson, wtf

The cost of bringing someone in this late in the season is pretty low as they're likely sat kicking their heels in the stands so will come for less, you might get some contribution from their previous club plus it's only a 3 month contract not 12
