The Rovers fan I watched the game with said the same to me at the time, that he should go for a drop goal. I said that wouldn't be the best idea tactically. They're already 2 scores ahead and in good field position. If they scored the drop goal, Salford would kick restart and have the chance to either go deep and hope for a mistake or go short and regain possession.
In hindsight, it might seem like they would have won had they gone for a one pointer, but the way that game went, Salford could easily still have scored twice and one of those might have ended up being converted rendering the drop goal pointless.
