I don't agree with the blocking Guzdek argument - the way he gets in the team is by being better than Cockayne and others. SL isn't a development competition - we probably need to provide better opportunities for players who are 20 or 21, but not by manufacturing them at the elite level.
BC is a versatile, competent and whole-hearted player. A problem, and this is not his fault, is that some fans think he is brilliant and/or love him as a player. His strengths get exaggerated, which is fine, but there's also tendency for his team mates who compete for a place in the team with him to have their flaws or limitations magnified. See Kieran Dixon and, especially earlier in the season, Mantellato as examples.
I respect your opinion, but I'd ask how can we find out if Guzdek is as good as/better than BC at full back when Chester will always play BC ahead of him whilst he's still at the club?
I agree he is a competent squad player but I would rather see Guzdek/Hallett given the chance to prove they can do the same job. It's not like BC brings exceptional quality to the team when he plays, his main attributes are his effort and intensity. Which young local players you would expect also bring that enthusiasm and will make mistakes but so does BC at 32.
The fan favourite/hero role grates on me slightly, I have nothing against BC for being seen n this light it's not his fault but it's a bit cringe worthy and not really justified. And when it leads to people being blind to his faults and calling Dixon for errors it's just annoying.
