Huddersfield Match Analysis : Fri Feb 28, 2014 10:40 pm
First things first: Hicks. Was given a pretty hard time from the fans but I don't really see why. Flat passes are not forward for one. Considering some of the awfulness we've had to put up with over the years, let's not worry about it.

Now that's out the way...

What a game!

Our kicking game was pretty terrible and similarly Huddersfield couldn't find the gap on the night. They had more success than us in this area but it was clear that we missed Brown a lot. It always gives you a much more difficult job. And from the offset, we did ourselves no favours by making silly mistakes that led to tries.

But this Widnes team has another gear that we've been sorely missing for some time. I feel like when we go behind, our head doesn't drop, we get down to it and fight harder. I thought we might get outmuscled today but it was the opposite. We went without the ball for a few long periods but just kept hitting them hard and with ball in hand whilst we weren't the quickest we managed to find gaps and kept the ball moving well.

Tickle for MOM was about right. Was glad to see we kept Danny Brough fairly quiet, as he has with multiple teams carved us up on too many occasions.

Very satisfying victory. There were a few of our regulars out too so that bodes well in terms of squad strength. Winnable game on Thursday too!

Spot on.

I was a little worried before the game that we would get out-muscled tonight and they would also have too much flair with Brough controlling things whilst we missed Brown. But the lads pulled together and showed we really can play a bit and can defend well. We should definitely be up for the Salford game... :D

Fantastic victory lads. Really really good. No reason we shouldn't be on 6 points next week. With so many missing we showed how strong our depth is. Impressed me a lot.

Not sure on my MOTM?

After seeing Huddersfield against Wigan, I thought we were on to a hiding but obviously not

That Salford game is a really big one. They've had a lot of eyes on them over the close season for good reasons and we can show the rugby league world that we're not a team to be written off. Big names can get you so far, but as we learned in the championship, it's absolutely no good if they're over the hill or you are just lacking pace. Should be a good match!

Re: Huddersfield Match Analysis : Sat Mar 01, 2014 2:47 am
Awesome result, kicking game as mentioned by dalto was awful but we made up for that in other areas with great defence and an excellent work ethic and attitude. I cant be bothered listing names as its 2:46am and I'm shattered :) lets just say we've been very clever in the market signing who we have.

Roll on Salford!

well deserved win, we were poor but not taking anything away from you, you were more clinical and better organised.
both teams got lucky with tries coming from mistakes but you had more composure when it mattered.

still not sure about owens try though.
well done and im sure we will even things out at our place :)

Neither are we on that try but we'll take it

The press seem very confused as well as it was actually Hanbury who scored it.

Fair play to you for coming on here. It was a good clean match and I hope Hudds do well this season as it's always nice for one of the former also rans to bloody the noses of the big shots and elbow their way into the top. Plus from what I saw Huddersfield is one of the nicest urban places I've been to in yorks.
