First things first: Hicks. Was given a pretty hard time from the fans but I don't really see why. Flat passes are not forward for one. Considering some of the awfulness we've had to put up with over the years, let's not worry about it.Now that's out the way...
What a game!
Our kicking game was pretty terrible and similarly Huddersfield couldn't find the gap on the night. They had more success than us in this area but it was clear that we missed Brown a lot. It always gives you a much more difficult job. And from the offset, we did ourselves no favours by making silly mistakes that led to tries.
But this Widnes team has another gear that we've been sorely missing for some time. I feel like when we go behind, our head doesn't drop, we get down to it and fight harder. I thought we might get outmuscled today but it was the opposite. We went without the ball for a few long periods but just kept hitting them hard and with ball in hand whilst we weren't the quickest we managed to find gaps and kept the ball moving well.
Tickle for MOM was about right. Was glad to see we kept Danny Brough fairly quiet, as he has with multiple teams carved us up on too many occasions.
