Barry Dowd was a great player. When the Chemics won the Championship in 1987/88, Barry played Stand-off in 28 of the 30 league games after Tony Myler was injured.

I thought it was Widnes?

[quote="BIGAL1"]All games are winnable, whats hard to understand about that.

Can't really argue with Barry Dowd either. I would probably have added Mike O'Neill to that as well. I've seen some videos of him running the angles down the centres around 1984 and he was fast with good hands for a forward.

Jesus I've just realised that is 25 years ago.

an atmosphere that isn't created by people in matching shirts clapping along to a drum or novelty PA music might be nice!

Got thinking long and hard about this earlier on. I have only watched Widnes since 94ish, so this may shock you:

Mike Hill (I think his first name was Mike)
Anybody remember this lad, think he was Widnesian, short and very stocky, not overweight but certainly a big lad for such a guy lacking in height. Always punched abover his weight. Seem to remember his tackling was sublime, hardly ever missed one. Real work horse/

What says you widnes fans?

I think you may be taking the Mickey on Mike Hill.............I actually know him and he is a cracking fella, really nice bloke..............But i think he would be the 1st to admit he was never a world beater

nobody say Andy Currier - please!
The most over-rated player Widnes have ever had!
Notwithstanding his bad injury - other than games against Fev (which he usually excelled in) I always thought he was crapola!

He wasn't that bad. He was player of the season at Balmain. His tackling was a bit suspect, and a section of the fans didn't take to him (which seems to be a thing with Widnes supporters) but on his day he was a very good player.

I recall a programme with his picture on the front cover with a GB shirt on so he can't have been that bad like you say, particuarly at the time since Paul Loughlin, Joe Lydon, Jiffy to name a couple being the regular three-quarters at that time.

Nicknamed the "White Pearl".

I think every club has one to be honest and I certainly recall Currier getting plenty of stick from the speccies as a weener sat on the perimeter walling. I don't recall him having any pace either but that said, I also recall an interception at Old Trafford in a Premiership Final. Not sure if he went all the way. Love him or loathe him, and just like the Biscans and Traore's of this world with a Champions League Medal he has got the lot apart from a Challenge Cup Winners Medal. You can't really argue with that.

Now drives Taxi's and didn't take to kindly to our Ray French "Currier, where's he going?" collective comment when he done a U-turn to take us from Weatherspoons one night. Got a tip though.
