It’s about a problem that has been around the club for a few seasons under different coaches so it merits its own thread.Anyway….when was you 2 made moderators?

For the purposes of Sports it’s not over simplistic

It’s usually young working class lads who play the game
They like rules and straight forward guidelines

Kinda like the Army - they don’t mess with culture

Soldiers alive

Keep it simple !
WINNING underpins all we do whilst winning and creating great young men

With respect, I think in the context of modern day professional sport you are being over simplistic. A sports club nowadays has to consider recruitment, retention, marketing, administration, financial management, HR management, player welfare, youth development etc. Whilst I would agree that the focus of it all is a group of (often) working class lads (and lasses) wining first team matches, this can only be achieved on a sustainable level through the presence of a positive, professional culture throughout the club. Even with a good culture the team may not win on a match day but by having it you are building the pathway to giving the club sustainable success. Another discussion point might be how do we measure success as a club?

I would agree and that's why I think TS is correct in addressing the club's culture as a priority. If he sets something similar to the following organisational goals:

Field competitive teams at all levels of the sport through effective coaching, leadership, motivation, welfare, medical and fitness programmes.

Recruit talented players that improve the playing group within budget / salary cap

Recruit and develop young players(as sports-people and people).

Achieve successful community involvement.

Develop and sustain optimum levels of support.

Develop and sustain optimum levels of sponsorship.

Effective and efficient management of the club's off field business - merchandising, publicity, match day experience, administration etc

Achievement of these organisational goals will develop a culture where:

All stakeholders trust and respect each other and the club they represent.

All stakeholders know the clubs goals and its strategy for achieving them.

All stakeholders know their role within the strategy.

All stakeholders are proud of the club and their own levels of contributions towards achieving success.

The club recognises and respects the support base and the community it represents

Sustainable success will follow be it winning more games than we lose, competing proudly in every game or winning trophies. It depends on how we measure success in comparison to the current slum we're in.

On the Culture spectrum there is only Winning and Losing
We are somewhere on the spectrum at all times
Only WINNING moves you along
You can quote me all year on that

I would say that WINNING is a goal (rather than a culture) that is set and achieved or not depending upon the culture of the team / club aiming to achieve that goal of winning. Wigan and Penrith could be described as having a winning culture at present but there are a myriad of interacting social behaviours and systems (cultures) that need to be in place to allow them to achieve that status. All clubs AIM to win but don't always achieve it due to cultural faults. You don't go from losing to winning consistently overnight, so you're correct, there are degrees along the losing to winning spectrum. I don't for one minute think that TS doesn't AIM to win matches; he just understands that we don't have the correct culture in place in order to achieve that aim on a consistent basis.

The above just sounds like woke word tripe used
In modern day work places
The GOAL is a WINNING Culture
Do not over complicate things
The players are working class kids who like most
young Hull lads, need a simple GOAL in their work.

WIN matches and make sure every thing you do at
Work is towards WINNING.

A great coach then makes sure that everything he
Does is connected to WINNING which involves
Making the young men behave impeccably on and off the field

WINNING is the gel for mature grateful behaviour and if
We don’t happen to win then the players still bahave
Like young ‘gentlemen’ on and off the pitch

I was just attempting to discuss how the club should structure itself to be competitive and give the best chance of winning with the available resources. I agree that everything they do should be towards winning but even a great coach couldn't come into this club and just say "win, because everything I do is connected to winning, oh and while you're about it, make sure you behave well, there's a good set of chaps". It takes changes to systems, personell, processes, behaviours and time (culture change). Apologies if my woke word tripe offends you old timer lol. It's some of that "don't overcomplicate things, we're just daft working class Hull lads" attitudes we need to change!

The only genuine thing that offends me is the
reference to ‘old timer’ :D

I hear all the ‘noise’ about culture. I worked in
a high powered finance company in the CBD of
Melbourne as a manager of consultants and advisers.
Culture is my middle name. This was last year, before
retiring aged 55 for golf and wine tasting and a beach house in Manly. .

Sometimes you just have to cut through a
Corporate Mixed message. Currently the culture message
Is blinding the overall corporate goals of a successful
income driven Club. No income then we’re in trouble.

We need a total reset and Winning solves 99% of
Issues. Tony could sort ‘culture’ issues much easier
When the team is Winning.
I would have started with the business’s most
Important issue, losing way way too many matches, and then moved onto the ‘Nice to do’ issues, such as the Club culture.
