Like what BH says here about us looking like we were enjoying the defensive grind. That's what Wigan have been famous for, a good sign given our limited personnel in the pack.
Some credit to Lane and Cator who've taken on the engine room role - local lads that love the club and are nailing down their automatic selection credentials.

The RFL have to look at the whole Referee situation.
Today is a perfect example: Brown dangerous tackle: Penalty and Sin Bin Powell same dangerous tackle: Penalty only Late Wigan tackle on Hodgson: Penalty only Watts’ Late shoulder charge on Salford player: Penalty and Sin Bin One minute later, Salford player rams forearm in the face of Cas player on ground: Penalty only
Both these games, plus last nights, had a Referee, Linesman and miked up to the Video Ref (who obviously advises on some incidents)
All we need is one rule book, one interpretation and a consistent decision, regardless of which team it is. It doesn’t matter which official makes the decision, just give us the right decision.
Did we get a penalty on the Powell tackle? I thought Hicks just carried on the tackle count after he got treatment , as it was the 5th tackle
Great defensive effort and swift was great at full back not sure how connor can get back in given it was him who cost us the match at Wigan
We can beat saints who haven't set the world alight this season but need to be on it
But gotta say the game its self was awful lost count how many mistakes and penalties their was! Worst game of rugby I've seen for a while
Connor has to come back in, our most creative player, his link up play with Reynolds in the first two games was the only time we have really clicked in attack. We never looked like scoring yesterday from creative play, the barge over is fine but we need other options which Connor provides.
Regarding the tackles by Powell and Brown, I’d argue that Powell’s was actually worse as he attacked the knees from the side which is not in the normal direction of the joint. Browns tackle was from behind the knees in the direction the knee joints.
Hicks stopped the game yet then gave no penalty, no linesman called it neither the VR. Yet Browns was deemed not only a penalty but also a yellow. This all in the same game along with a high shot by Farrell on Griff causing him to fail a head assessment yet surprisingly nothing given even though Hicks saw it and ignored it.
Moving on to the Cas v Salford there was another tackle exactly the same as Brown by Salford on a Cas player and not anything given again.
So either Hicks made an big error with the Brown penalty compounding it with a yellow or he made an error with the Powell one and Thaler again the same error in the Cas v Salford game.
Either way these 3 incidents alone show just how poor and inconsistent the officials are currently yet the RFL seem to do nothing to improve this. I’d also argue the Farrell high shot on Griff which was direct contact with the head was no less reckless than the one Connor made on Hardaker. So be interesting if the RFL and the blind disciplinary panel will do anything on this.
