I've always said that when compared with say Association Football one off the big turn offs for the uninitiated in our game is the number of rules that are open to interpretation. There is little you can do about a forward pass and that will always be in 'opinion' of the referee or the linesman but the arguments with a knock on as to whether it went backwards or forwards is also in their remit and a consistent bone of contention as well and I have always thought to clear all that up then whether it is backwards or forwards if you drop it it should be a knock on. But it is a fundamental change to the very basics of the game which I wouldn't think will ever happen.

Knock On - means to knock the ball towards the opponent's dead ball line with hand or arm.

If, after knocking-on accidentally, the player knocking-on regains or kicks the ball before it touches the ground, a goal post, cross bar or an opponent, then play shall be allowed to proceed.

I'd get rid of the bit I've highlighted.

Why should defenders be allowed to do there utmost to "dislodge" the ball, if the attacker is then not allowed to regain possession?

That’s what happens most of the time these days any way.

Very rarely do you see the referee signal that the ball went backwards. There was one the other night v Wakefield when I think one of their players dropped it and it looked liked it bounced behind the player, but a knock on was given.

Consistency is what we need. Same with the play the ball rule. I haven’t got a clue what the PTB rule is these days?
