I really enjoy long walks especially when they are taken by people I don't like!

Worst case scenario

Connor
Fijian winger
Fonua
Scott
Swift
Carlos
McNamara
Taylor
Houghton
Satae
Lane
Savelio
Cator

Brown
Fash
Sao
Johnstone

Shame we have loaned out Wynne as I would have played him at FB.

Still a strong pack and bench, but very weak in the backs and particularly halfback

To be honest Dave I think Vulikijapani would be worth putting in for this one anyway for his speed to give us some pace on both edges to counter the threat of French. The rest in terms of Griff and Sneyd is unknown but agree with your 17 if they are not going to be risked and given this week to shake off niggles.
Think Fonua is far more dangerous and productive in the centres.

Certainly an intriguing game and one that will give us a very good indication of where we are at in terms of resilience and defensive structure improvement from previous seasons. Think without Reynolds and Sneyd we will be up against it in terms of scoring with Wigans great defence so not expecting to win but too compete.

Griffin and Sneyd are doubtful, get Houghton in the halves, and Johnstone at nine, See my earlier team Mitch on wing, Mahe in the centre. Send the kids, Scott Brown Jude Harvey etc let’s have a look at them.

Looking at the pictures of Facebook, I reckon both Sneyd and Griffin will play

I’ll tell you what Dave, in the last two games just before kick off Sneyd is swigging out of a cup, it’s likely to be coffee with his laid back style, but probably pain killers.

well lets hope Sneyd can run this week
The C/C is far more important to both teams so no point in risking anyone carrying a niggle or in Sneyds case a dead leg.
Like Chris said a good opportunity to give Vulcan a run on the wing with Carlos moving to 6 and bringing in Fonua.
I dont think any of us are expecting a win and will be happy if we see 100% effort for 80 mins.
The following week is a different matter. With Reynolds back Sneyd running with two legs i think we can beat them.

Agree, a free hit this one. Cup game is the bigger prize.

Just for a change I'm going to disagree with you.

I see the league and ultimately the GF as the bigger prize.
If we want to be taken seriously about being contenders then consistency and the ability to compete with the Wigans of this world has to be a priority, not a 4 game knockout competition.
Take Leeds for example last year, not a good team, disappointing league finish but CC winners.
I couldn't give a stuff about the CC when compared to LLS and giving ourselves the best shot at appearing in the GF.
So for me this week and not next is more important. However I'm not expecting a victory as I don't think we're at that level yet and that has to be our main focus.

Why not disagree with bonaire then, who made the original point? We're like a siren and doomed sailor, just really old, craggy ones.

I do agree that the league is the bigger prize, but the cup is not a bad second place. We have started the season solidly and a loss tomorrow wouldn't signal the end of our league campaign by a long shot. Whereas a loss the following week immediately takes one of the three trophies off the table.

I'm probably more optimistic than most about tomorrow. Leeds managed to give Wigan a game with loads of backs missing simply by defending well and running hard. We are a better team than Leeds. If our pack really takes the game to Wigan and if Connor shows up big I think we can get a result. I'm not confident by any means, but I think it will be a very competitive game. The beauty of a great defence is that it keeps you in the arm wrestle even if things aren't going your way. If we defend to form Wigan won't score many points, and then who knows?
