Re: Round 4 v Wakefield : Fri Apr 23, 2021 10:01 pm
The defensive effort from tonight coupled with the short turnaround resulted in tired players making more errors then usual and poor discipline due to fatigue.
I'm not going to bemoan the ref as we were our own worst enemy at times and out last tackle plays were disappointing but a win is a win.
Wakefield had won 2 of our last 3 meetings so credit to the lads for their mindset to stick in the grind.
Who knows how the team of last year would have fared in that arm wrestle.
This is our best start to a season for 12 years now and whilst we will have poor patches occasionally I'm enjoying this new journey so far, even Swift alluded to our happy camp this season so despite a below par performance I'm happy with the win.

massive effort from the team in defence.defended 5 repeat sets on our line.
What is a concern is that indiscipline is creeping back into the team.Last week also against Warrington.
This puts so much pressure back on defence.
I dont know whether Sneyd is still playing with an injury but he has to start taking more control as our last tackle plays are so poor.
Looks like we willl lose Bowden for several weeks and Faraimo likely to get two match ban
Fonua will come back in and luckily we have Jack Brown available for Bowden but it does highlight our lack of depth in the forwards

Big raps to swift tonight , thought he was excellent, putting his hand up looking for work and taking tough carries and gaining valuable meters on our exit sets. Brilliant finish for his try too.

11 tackle busts

Seems like the win has come at a cost. In addition to Shaul, Reynolds, Ma'u and Matongo on the sidelines we've now got Griffin, Sneyd and Bowden with issues and Faraimo maybe getting a ban. Never mind, only Wigan next.

Good to hear BH post match when asked about the interception that the play was on, the execution was off so we definitely don't want to be discouraging that sort of enterprise.

Shaul and Matongo haven't been here since game 1 so hardly a miss.
Not sure how far away Ma'u and Reynolds are away from fitness.
Bowden out of all of them seems more likely to miss the Wigan game.
Try not to focus on the negative, Wigan also have key personnel missing too.

Is Hodgson the new Griffin, or is it all about pace?

Shaul is a miss because he is an experienced player in our squad who is unavailable. Matongo would have come into contention with Ma'u and Bowden out, so is a miss.
Ma'u is a 3-4 week injury based on last week's update, so 2-3 week's still. Reynolds was said to be 4-6 week's 2 weeks ago. So neither will be back according to stated timescales. As you say Bowden is likely to miss out, so that's 5-7 players missing against last year's Grand Finalists. Not negative, just factual. As you'll see from my posts after the match, I'm pretty chipper about our start to the season, but we haven't played a top side yet and now have to do so with a chunk of the squad out, possibly evem both first choice halves.Good to keep a sense of perspective I think.
