One way or the other he had to go I guess. He made some bad decisions and appointed (and took from the RFL) far too many staff for it to be sustainable and the spending at the centre of the organisation was far too high. I'm not surprised he has gone though, because he was also hung out to dry on several issues and made a scapegoat when the clubs ill thought out plans have gone wrong. But be careful what you wish for because I bet now for 'political' and financial reasons clubs will decide to go back under the RFL and that organisations track record on running things is hardly a glowing one. So, once again, in effect the game will be run By Mr H and his mate from across the Pennines. As soon as Elstone got on the wrong side of the most powerful club bosses his time was always limited.
Fact is As a game we are skint and desperately need new money coming in and cannot completely rely on TV funding anymore, because now Sky know our predicament, they are holding us to ransom with a reduced rights offer on last time. No one wants to know Rugby League at present thus Elstones ill thought out attempt to get Equity Funding. However he came with a good track record and if he couldn't get more sponsorship and profile into Super League I don't know who can but I do think that it won't be the RFL. On the other hand it's hard to see what the Super league Clubs will do to replace him. As was said above has he jumped off a sinking ship? Interesting times ahead. Just my views of course and no doubt many more will think differently.
