Cheers Seb. Some clubs might be ok with their big backers, and other clubs might manage to get loans because they have some collateral etc:- Our biggest asset is the fans and we need to somehow try and rally some financial support
Exactly this. Our only "assets" are player contracts still to run but in the current environment I doubt these will be worth much to sell. As you allude to the Big 4 have multimillionaire backers as do Huddersfield, Rovers, Toronto so they have a buffer we don't. Very worrying.

Reading Adams rant like comments on Twitter it appears that we have got the furlough money but we have applied for one of the loans available to cover other costs (no doubt such as training ground rents, loads of pre ordered kit to which we are obligated etc) but we are not being allowed to access the Government led loans by our Bank because of outstanding financial failings dating back to the Hetherington years. Without our own ground to borrow against we have few assets so, I'm told, the situation at the Club is very serious and as fans we just have to hope. Who knows, as has been the case in the past we might all have to see what we can do to help keep our wonderful Club going!
Surely the club can obtain loans secured against their “Intangible Assets”?
Or are they actually worthless after all ?
Intangible assets are not worthless when clubs are in a position to buy and sell players.
The situation has changed drastically, if you hadn't noticed.

I find it hard to believe the Club have never had any loans before? We must have really been making good money until now then ! To pay rent and the ground , and players and staff wages . Day to day running costs is good Management on the Sky money ,and sponsorship, and merchandise sales !!
Who's said we haven't had loans in the past? Of course we have, but the situation is different now, no real income streams, sponsors on the brink, Mr Allam probably turning the screw, and we already owe the bank plenty - that's what "making a financial loss" really means.
Going back to the OP, we need players to run the reserves comp, so those not considered good enough for the first team would probably be considered for the reserves. That said, I wonder if reserve squads will be ditched as part of cost cutting by all clubs. Its going to be very interesting and I feel some will fall by the wayside.
