I'm glad you're so confident, I'm not so sure looking at the number of current and long standing regular pass holders where I sit in the East Stand that stopped mid summer coming mid summer and that's with a pass bought and paid for.
The club have a got a job on not only re engage with its fan base and its core supporters but also to convince them it'll be different this time and to renew once again.
If the recruitment had been a little more exciting then maybe but I think to say easily 4000 is underestimating the strength of feeling of discontent.
I hope I'm wrong but do feel if the club hit 4K renewals then they've done well
I just hope they’ve been realistic and budgeted for the big decrease in memberships and attendances. It’s not just financially the IMG threshold is 7.5K average and we’ll only get 1 derby next season so there’s that to think about too.
Like Eamon McManus alluded to when talking about Saints finances he thinks not keeping competitive is a false economy in this sport. AP obviously thinks differently but
I’m not so confident in the supporters loyalty. I know so many previous die hards who’ve said they won’t be bothering anymore.
Your last two sentences are pretty much my concerns as listening to everyone around where I sit through last season and this season with most being what you'd call die hards, the feeling of discontent is deep. I know most if not everyone has probably said at some point 'I've had enough' but then renewed once again but this season it has felt totally different when its been said. Many backed the club through lockdown when struggling financially themselves which could be a reason for the depth of feeling why they feel cheated and let down on top of the way the clubs been run so poorly.
The number of people that renewed passes for this season but have just chucked in the towel mid summer to do other things and getting enjoyment is again another concern. Even as a long standing pass holder I am guilty myself of deciding do other things which I've enjoyed doing instead of going to every game as I used to. That is the real danger the club face is getting those fans to renew, many I've spoken to are pretty adamant that they are done as they simply do not enjoy it anymore or the way they feel after attending a game.
I'm fortunate I can afford to renew without worrying too much about it and will do so to support the club financially but I will most likely pick and chose my games depending on other choices I have for my time.
Anyway on to Saturday, can't see anything other than a large margin of defeat unfortunately given the 21 man squad released and we simply just aren't good enough at all.
