"I definately feel there will be another try Ray" - Jonathon Davies, Saturday 27th August 2005.

As an ex smoker (6 years stopped) I think the anti-smoking lobby has gone too far generally. I cant for the life of me think why they wouldnt for example allow folk to smoke near the barriers at pitch side during half-time. They wouldnt actually be "in an enclosed public place" in my view.

Other than that, allow people outside the stadium with a stamp on their wrist. Its not rocket science. Go to flamingo Park or anyhwere such as that and you are allowed out and back in with a simple stamp on your hand. They could change the word for every game to stop people stamping themselves. Or put some fencing round just with ticker tape and observe!!

Its very easy under the current "you cant do that" climate we have created to stop people doing almost anything they choose to do. Its also very easy or someone who has never smoked to criticise those wo do as they have no comprehension what the "need" for a cigarette entails.

Hi Andy

The Rugby Football League are in the process of reviewing the video that you are referring to. We do not condone behaviour of this nature and have contacted the player’s employer, Hull F.C., who have confirmed that they are dealing with the incident under their club rules.

smc might not want to clean up the cig ends or put on extra staff for other people to walk in and out the staduim.
supporters might not like standing up to let more people get by them while the games on.

I was only talking about half time. Not suggesting for a moment that fags should be allowed during the game. My point is that the club could do something under current legislation. In fact, a few fans may well be staying away because of the fact they cant get through a game without enjoying their fix. I know when I was a smoker the current law would have had a serious impact on my ability to "enjoy" the game experience.

If I wanted glory and the joys of supporting a well financed and well organised sport I'd pick another one.

tbf the stamp on the hand is firkin good idea. It works well enough in Nightclubs and such like.

Before anyone suggests LEPER, or something similar on the forehead, that might be going a little far.

I mereley asked a question and was told it would be addressed but as yet have not seen or heard anything.

For your information, as a steward at the KC stadium, I ejected 2 FC fans on Friday night for smoking. They were given a warning just before the start of the game and were seen again at half time and were asked to leave. So, contrary to your statement that smoking is ignored by stewards, I beg to differ. :D

I don't smoke but usually go to the match with three friends who do. They have a smoke before we go through the turnstiles and light up as soon as we come out at the end. Is it so difficult to manage without one for an hour and a half?

Lets face it wether the club like it or not if they dont provide a smoking area people will continue to grab a few quick sneaky drags when they can.

At Old Trafford police turned a blind eye to it so long as it was done at the top of the stairs. Millenium Stadium opened up the outside areas.

I thought if you got caught you'd get thrown out. Now I know they'll just tell you to put it out i'll maybe just get as many drags in as I can before I get caught.

Hang me
