How many running HB's do we need?



A HB with the ability to split open a defence, coupled with a good kicking game is what we need.

I genuinely think HTW is the man we are going to be pinning our hopes on. Good players of the type you describe are very rare. I think we will go with Rankin and Miller with Horne as back up until the end of next season, then the reigns go to the youngsters. I would like to sign a top class 7 for a couple of years for Wilson and Dean to learn from, but I don't think we will.

Taylor's Defo on, & Ryan Brierley is very much on the radar.

It would be intresting to see how Brierley would go in Superleague. A very good young championship scrumhalf with a excellent try scoring record. Worth a punt I suppose.

Age isn't that big a factor, Dobson was about 19 when he came over here and I would certainly sign Mark Sneyd given the chance.

Sounds similar to Rankin/Miller/Horne.

Brierley is going well in the Championship but, as others have mentioned, so was Jamie Ellis and that didn't work out too well for us. Could be worth a try but definitely a gamble IMO. Would like to think that if he was coming to us that it is alongside another more experienced HB.

He can score trys ok. But his defence is worse than Crooks

Michael Dobson has a dodgy defence but I'd have him in my team any time. Defence is not what I look for in a HB.

Another young halfback isn't what we need.

We could always bulk him up and turn him into a second rower.

People seem to know who's not what we need at 7 so please can you tell us realistically who we should be looking to bring in ?

Who was the coach of our club you was happy with ?

Peter Gentle (if he'd been allowed to do what he wanted), before him, John Kear (although he was too pally), before him McRae was OK if not my cup of tea as a person, Cleal could have been much better in different circumstances, Smith was good but came at a price.



Gutted we've never managed a Swain, Hasler, Kearney type player coming in as coach.

Should never have got ridden of Sharp imo.

I think you're right. But with the vitriol against him from the fans across the airwaves of Humberside and alike at the time I think the then Board blinked.

Why do people always post a question like that as some kind of justification for keeping dross or recruiting poorly? Do agents ever ring you up offering you players? Can you give me a list of who is available? How much will the club pay salary and transfer fee wise? It's such a shiit question that anyone who poses it should be shot

sharps' recruitment and retention was awful but I've never known if that was down to him or hetherington. it's well documented they didn't get on

I wouldn't be surprised if Kath was signing who she wanted, Sharp just coached them. He did like his utility players, but I think he's the best coach we've had in years.

We could have kept Matty Head if it wasn't for Kath.

I've said on here before that I think Head is the best scrum half we've had in the Superleague era, but his knees were shot to pieces. After he left us he managed 20 games in 2 seasons before hanging up his boots. Wouldn't have been the answer.

I'd like to think the club are looking at making Blake Green an offer.
