And with just as many issues and injury problems going on. He never had the luxury afforded to Agar of having "his own" team either.
That's because when the side started to take the 'shape' of his own it was near the bottom of the table. His signings;
Matty Head - Good player, good signing as at the time there was nothing decent around. Steered us to a 4th place finish.
Matt Sing - Very good player in his day but questionable signing. Big salary, quota space and essentially never used by his team mates.
Todd Bryne - Mr average, took up a quota spot and despite been a nice guy his job could have been done as good if not better (and no doubt cheaper) by an Englishman.
Willie Manu - Class, enough said.
Peter Cussack - With a pack already including Dowes and Radford not what we needed at all.
Danny Tickle - Ultimately a good signing but it was a risky one.
Wayne Godwin - Not what we needed at all, Wagga was a decent fella but with Mr Swain been able to play the 80 what was the point?
Hutch Maiva - Joke, enough said.
Adam Dykes - See Head apart from the fact surely something less risky was around?
Shaun Berrigan - Class player in Aus but was he what the team needed? Massive wage and never got close to living up to his reputation (be it his fault or not)
The first 6 signings were made after the GF reaching side, you can see why we didn't kick on.
