This cap thing is just clever wording. We will be spending upto our internal cap, which is a lot less than what we are allowed to spend.

If that is the case then I don't see the point in presenting it that way. If we aren't running at the cap then just say so and explain the reasons why. I think the fan base would be understanding and it might take a bit of the pressure off another dodgy season.

I wonder if Adam means that we aren't spending as much as we could, because we don't have the dispensations other clubs get to spend more when including Marquee signings. Of which he makes it clear we don't have any. Last time I spoke to him (which a while ago now at a reserves games) he said we would be spending up to the basic cap.

The article in the HDM suggests we are spending up to the cap but we just don't have any marquee players.

Really disappointed we’re not looking at bringing a back row and a pivot in.

It was unlikely we’d find a top back rower without a quota spot or paying a transfer fee but it’s the one position where a stop gap signing or a risk would be beneficial to us.

Hopefully with another preseason lane gets back to his best and we’re laughing. Remember how we felt about tag and griffin 2 years ago. They both performed well this year.

I’ve seen a few people tweeting abuse to lane, should be hanging their heads in shame. Proper embarrassing as a fan base

I think the lack of a real leader in the pack will come back to bite us in the season. Hoping the last player we sign is someone that can play 7&9, as I'm not sure how much we can rely on an ageing Houghton to long minutes this season. If he does get injured, having Smith and Balmforth as our hookers isn't exactly an exciting prospect

With regards the back row, I get the impression that given the apparent lack of available targets the club are hoping one of the young back rows step up next season and we get some decent minutes out of Staveley, Severs, Jebson et al.
Hopefully one of them establishes themselves and then makes recruitment for 2025 easier.
We're definitely still in a transition next year to my mind.

If and it’s a big if, we are at full cap then it just shows how poor we are at managing the cap when you compare it to Wigan, saints, Catalans etc

I imagine for Wigan, Catalan and saints, they take full advantage of the marquee player rules, it is easier to attract players to the club due to the increased likelihood of winning trophies and appearing in finals and the lifestyle on offer in the south of France is an obvious pull factor for Catalan. Wigan and saints have excellent academies to draw on as well which means they can pay other players a bit more, we currently don't have that luxury but hopefully that will change if more players do break through this season as Litten did last season

Think TS has mentioned previously about getting better value for money. I'm sure there are players at the club on more money than he'd ideally like, based on the ability of the player. However, hopefully this is something we can continue to address over the coming seasons and the days of overpaying are behind us

Maximising the cap, whilst bringing through quality younger players alongside a quality coaching set-up should stand us in good stead and eventually we may be in a position to bring in a marquee signing or two if the financial outlook improves in time
