Chatting to someone close to the club today, Andy Last was offered the coaching job immediately after Radford’s removal. He said he’d give it a go, temporarily. Purtill had no input in first team matters, Radford excluded him. On several occasions this season, Radford was offered advice during games but stuck to his gut feeling and games went from bad to worse. Andy Last is very highly thought of not just at FC. I believe that with him as head coach, Purtill as attack and Ellis as defence coaches, we’ll have a winning ensemble, especially with the team we’ve got.

I take it that Last is more open to taking advice from other sources then (i.e. Purtill)? Can only be a good thing if true, and sort of bears out that Radfords style of rugby was pretty entrenched. Other thing is , Shaun Wane is no mug, and he’s chosen Last to be one of his assistants.
I’m back after a little snooze in lockdown Andy Last - No No No No No
I can’t believe anyone would think he’s the man If he had any real quality then he’d have been offered a gig elsewhere If he had any ambition then he’d have left already If he had any top notch qualities then he would have risen like a true Leader many years before now and would have stopped the shoite we had to put up with in the last 2 years Sorry but not good enough
Im seriously concerned about us moving forward with Last too. Pearson assembled this squad spending over cap and really was hoping for big things from the team this year - granted a lot has happened but its still the same squad but now about to be coached by very much an unknown quantity. Last could be a revelation, ive nothing against him, but he could also be an absolute disaster. After this year some teams with money will leave us behind, Saints, Wire, Wigan so imo this was our best chance for success. Next year it'll be mid table mediocrity again as we simply wont be able to compete with the teams ive mentioned - this season and its turmoil could of been a season there for the taking with a top coach at the helm (Wane), now i think we havent got a chance
