Not sure what your point is about the Milward comment, Milward was the coach, the role model. I would expect players do get off with cheerleaders but they are not the role models who are supposed to lead by example.

I think you're contradicting yourself now. Earlier you were saying Long was not a good role model. Now you seem to be saying players are not supposed to be role models.

I'd say Longy would be the best person in the game to deal with someone like that actually.

Someone like Kearney never experienced that side of the game and was always the role model, Longy knows he screwed up, and so is best placed to offer advice to Tansey about how to improve himself as a person and knuckle down.

Not sure I did tbh...I am not sure what was even meant about the Milward point as I pointed out, he was married wasn't he. What is wrong with a player getting off with a cheerleader ? (as long as they are old enough of course), and the player is not married

Maybe....but I personally am not convinced. I am sure although Kearney was a role model he certainly would have experienced that side of the game with some of the players he played with.

Betting scandal, drinking exploits (the one where he broke into some-ones house and went to bed was particularly amusing )...drunk whilst playing in big games....leaving the International team high & dry and coming home....Are just a few, there are many more.
The most amusing one for me was when Nobby laid on Longy bed which Longy had peed after been on the lash

Hence why I would label Longy a character of the game and not particularly a legend, hardly a role model was he.

You miss-understood the Cheerleader comment, the coach is the role model who is the one who sets the examples in the team.
If a player got off with a cheerleader (she was right age, he was not married) no it would not be a problem, he is not the married coach who is the role model for the team/club.
However the only thing Longy had done in his career was to get off with a cheerleader this discussion would not even be taking place!....Longy is remembered more for his off filed antics as he is for those on...He is a poor role model for the sport off the field.
