History repeats itself, building something to last? Just like the early 80’s? That group of people sent your club into rapid decline and RFL wilderness for 30 years. Be careful what you wish for and be even more careful what you brag about. It’s a long way down from the top of this particular tree and a lot of branches to hit as you fall, which happens to all clubs sometime or other.
We've heard it all before haven't we. When they were first promoted they were going to survive, then compete then win trophies. Still waiting on the latter. We won the Cup eight years after being promoted and reached the Grand Final the following season. Rovers first reached Super League seventeen years ago.
They have a decent squad but are unlikely to get a better chance of winning a trophy than last year in the Cup - Batley at home, Salford at home in the QF, Wigan in the pouring rain and then Leigh in the final.

It's easier to win the cup these days due to how late super league teams enter it ( which is ridiculous btw )
Salford wigan and leigh is a tough run no doubt
Hopefully we'll get a easier cup run than that and have a shot at a cup run
As for Ashurst, he's been a solid SL player but that's it, I'm sure if FC signed him you wouldn't be happy though, well maybe you would be, but that says a lot about you and your knowledge
Can't say, they are brilliant, just had there best ever season, finished 4th and lost the cup final, they really should have won.
A bit like our 2013 season, and like thatcseason, no one will remember it in a few years, not for positive reasons anyway, more for missed opportunities.
I thought our 2013 squad was average really and we punched by getting to the final
Still think gentle was a good coach and think we'd have done good things with him
Although obviously radders delivered amazing things aswell
Peter Sharp and gentle were both sacked to early imo and sharp esp brilliant coaches

Looking back Sharp's sacking was madness and even at the time seemed premature. Everyone you speak to rated him as a coach. The Cooke fiasco tore the team and club apart leaving Sharp to deal with the fall out. Hetherington then appointed her adopted son Agar which set us back years.
Gentle was sacked after the Huddersfield play-off humiliation after the players downed tools and refused to play for him. Like you say Gentle was a good coach but something had to give and it's easier to replace the coach then most of the team.
The reverse has happened with Smith so we need to be patient and give him time to sort the mess out and build for the future.
Infact I think tangonia is pretty average for a overseas player
Ashurst is better than him imo
Ashurst is a good player he’s the type that most teams need but wouldn’t ever get near dream team recognition like Tanganoa has done, but they’re both very different types of players and I’d say Ashurst is in the Dean Hadley mould of very solid resilient players that all coaches love, wether Ashurst is better then Hadley that would be up for discussion, Batchelor is the same type of player but better then both of them so rovers didn’t need a Ashurst type we needed a explosive hard line hitter that’s tough to handle which if Tanganoa can stay fit will be for us and hopefully regain that dream team form
Whitbread will be a terrific signing for Rovers half of Super League were chasing him. Tanginoa is a very good player too. Don't be surprised if some of your players find him difficult to tackle.
I agree Rovers do seem to have a few former Wakefield & Salford players .....King, Batchelor, Burgess, Evalds etc plus the afore mentioned Tanginoa & Whitbread.
I think they are all excellent players you see them as players from rubbish teams I suppose we would wouldn't we.
If they don't work out for Rovers we'll just start again, As Paul Lakin said recently
"We’re a club that’s growing, we’ve grown year-on-year for the last three years and we’ll continue to grow. We’ll spend off the pitch, we’ve got a board of very strong and wealthy individuals'.
Rovers are building something to last.
So have a few other clubs and have the clout and prestige to outbid you for players.
