Who cares what the media do? The club want to get their own marketing and promotion in order. I saw something on the wire board the other day about online and social media standings for sporting clubs and we were something like 121st with cas being 6th. We need to look in before we start bleating about the outside world

I agree that the club needs to work on the social media side of things. Aside from the official website some of the club's tweets are embarrassing, especially those done during a game.

That survey you mention is an annual league table of all 148 British professional football, rugby and cricket teams and is called the Sport Social Media Index.

It makes pretty poor reading for us, we are third bottom of all clubs in Super League and 121st overall. We dropped from 54th last year. Clearly some work to be done in-house. Hopefully the club are aware of this survey and improvements will be made.

That and they seem to be the official media outlet for St Stephens 'footfall on this Tuesday is 13445% up on the 2nd Wednesday in 2010'

Whatever scraps of actual journalism there was left has gone right out of the window, and I like others would like to see more critical coverage on our Sports teams. You could right a book on Allam (good points and bad points) Adam Pearson's takeover of us has brought disappointing returns, Rovers have had to axe their coach and half the squad due to bad decisions etc plenty of things to talk about yet all we get is the 'we're going to put things right, says Bruce/Radford/Chester' cut and paste articles.

Spot on!! We seem to have lost the art of investigative journalism. If Watergate had happened in Hull, we'd never have known about it.

Didn't you hear about the break-in at Carl Minns office when he was leader of Hull City Council and the theft of some of his ladyboys DVD's?

I rarely do as most of it is bilge written by people with far less understanding of the game than I have. What people write or say in the media doesn't affect how I see things as I take anything I read or with a pinch of salt. I accept that some people will like us and some not but I suspect it makes close to no difference to the club itself who do need to significantly up their game in terms of general marketing but also needs to professionalise it's PR, social media and web output as most of it is currently garbage

I take your point, but my question would be who is the benchmark?

From a web perspective would it be the comp's biggest club Wigan for example? Their output this week has been:
Offer to fans to take part in a training camp
Free postage on shop orders
A new minor sponsor
Williams being "shocked but happy" to get the 6 shirt
A fan winning the club lottery
Coach travel
Plugging season passes
Fixture calendar
Death of former player

Ours has been
Doncaster match preview
Squad announcement
Whiting aims for return to form
Plugging derby tickets
Feka hoping to excel in friendlies
Cas fixture change
Interview with Andy Last
Club lottery rollover
Club shop sale

Reading the Williams article to me it's not much different to ours.

What PR would you like to see? Successful PR teams typically leverage strong media relationships because the reach of press, radio and tv is so much greater than a club website which is essentially preaching to the converted. For the club to grow it needs broader engagement. Better media relations can be an enabler of that, surely?

Great post. It's all symptomatic of the trivia and self-indulgence which dominates society these days. A form of control while profiteering? Drug the masses by dulling their senses - Click and Constrain?

I find the whole 'celebrity culture' ethic and the add-ons that accompany it so suffocatingly depressing. It's omnipresent and the small protests of reason in the form of true culture, old fashioned journalism, respect for real achievement etc. is slowly being stifled under the avalanche of nonsense that appears to rule us.
