Just because things aren’t documented doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen. You don’t go from being fit with one club one season to getting injured the next season with another team just because they don’t have a comparable physio team. Recovery, maybe, but actual injuries are hard to avoid.
Yes we’re lacking in the back room staff, but I still stand by the fact we’ve been very unlucky with injuries. 16/17 (not to dwell) we didn’t have many significant injuries. Saints across their recent success didn’t have huge amount of injuries.
The bigger issue is the quality of our squad. When we have injuries we don’t have quality to back it up. Top teams do.
I’d say a big factor is the weak mental strength that seems to be ingrained in the fabric of the team when it comes to adversity. Most teams find it galvanises them and they complete much harder, whereas we just crumble and fold at the slightest excuse.
What’s more concerning for me about Saturdays result and performance was it was the one game the squad and Coach had to get right and be up for the battle. We saw from the performance both on the field and by Grix as the stand in HC that we just weren’t anywhere near in any aspect be it effort, desire, pride or intelligence. Places for next season should not be taken for granted by the likes of Lane, Fash & Sao for example.
Myler and Cartwright have one hell of a job on their hands come pre season.
