sorry Chris i dont agree that the deals had to be longer to facilitate players living locally
The club have had to rent houses in the past so no reason why this could not have been part of sales package. We are way below cap anyway so renting a house or two for say£1000 per month is hardly going to break the cap.
Like i said 1 year deals with an extension in the clubs favour would have been far more sensible and we dont know whether it would have been acceptable to the players or not
I agree the club have rented houses in the past but its not always simply about the accommodation more the whole uprooting their family. If they have a wife/partner with a job and kids settled in a school and doing well and a settled family/social life they aren’t likely to uproot for a 1 year deal, I know I wouldn’t do it for a 1 year deal. That’s why I’ve suggested there may have been a trade off.
Dont get me wrong I’m not particularly enthralled with the signings so far but it’s fair to say by the time we could do much and offer deals the better options on the market had secured deals elsewhere.
At the end of the day we don’t know what the deals agreed are with any of the players but I assume due to the mention of poor cap value and management that’s an area that is being addressed with moving on so many players still with current deals. Sorting the mess out we were and still are in was and is the priority I would say.
There’s no doubt we still lack genuine quality and I don’t get the logic of signing Cust unless Cartwright based on his experience of working with him feels he will be a good addition.
Time will tell come the start of next season as whether it’s been a good start to a complete rebuild or not.
