Does anyone think the club may be waiting to see whether we make the play offs or not to announce any arrivals? Maybe soften the blow of not making it? Don’t know why but I just get that feeling. Tony Smith has hinted at everyone concentrating on this year first in many of his interviews when asked about signings. Would be a good way of enthusing the fans after missing out.
Well only my thoughts on the situation but its safe to say one of four things is happening here either
a) The Club is struggling to recruit because of a lower spend for next season due to the government debt we are having to pay off after covid. Clubs are throwing money at players at present and Adam has already said our covid loan repayments in the coming years will affect the clubs ability to have as much money available. That's the worst scenario.
b) We are in the market for a lot of players and Smith is being cautious and canny over who we go for culture wise and we don't have enough high impact (as far as the fans are concerned) signings in the bag yet or......
c) We are saving all our signings for a high profile marketing campaign come the release of season tickets. Or...
d) We are conscious of the importance of the TV settlement and the effect it could have on the cash allocations to clubs and we are being a bit careful.
Of course it could be as Tony says and he feels that the business for next year will get in the way of this years campaign, but I guess the main indicator of our current ability to spend up to cap due to cash flow, will be how early we launch our season tickets. I think we have several players either signed or close to signing but I still think we may have to wait a while for details which is a bit unsettling for some of the fans who see mass signings going on across the League. However we should take heart from the fact that I don't think Tony Smith would tell us anything that isn't true he says we are busy with the high end signings so we have to take his word for that.
