I remember him one Saturday morning many years ago been interviewed on one of those Saturday morning kids programmes. Rovers were playing that Saturday afternoon in a cup game on the TV. He was asked if he supported any of the local teams to which he replied, "Rovers are playing today and I'll be there supporting them". He then punched the air and said come on you reds. So whether he was just supporting Rovers that particular day or whether he was a more committed regular supporter I don't really know.
