Especially when the Stadium is ageing. Like you say owning your own stadium is not the utopia that blinkered fans will have you believe. If you need to find £200K to repair a floodlight, you can’t go running to the Council.
So to be clear then you'd prefer to not own your own stadium...
The aging stadium argument is a valid one as is the increase in the energy bills and costs in general but being a tenant doesn't offset those costs all it does is forces up the rent at the next review point and allows no scope to allow that outlay to work for you in terms of revenue generation.
There have been pages upon pages on here about how the KC is hamstringing your club and how you had to get out due to the Allams seemingly treating FC as an unwanted (if necessary lodger) . Pearson himself was in the papers talking of building a new ground not too long ago, ok is was at pass sale time but I'm sure he wasn't being disingenuous.
Yes there is now a new regime in place at City and in charge of the KC but ultimately they will have the same cost implications burdened on them that are apparently going to cripple us. Now I'm pretty sure that their focus will be on making Hull City a success first and foremost and I would assume that they aren't out to stitch up the rugby club but if they find themselves in a position of losing money or having hard conversations with Mr Pearson I'm pretty certain I know which route they'll take.
I don't disagree in that whether owning or renting the increase in costs for utilities and services will be felt and under the dark days of the Allams it would have a been a real concern, however under the new owner of the SMC things appear to be a lot better as alluded to by AP. Also both Hull FC and Hull City are tenants of the stadium (which people seem to forget) with two tenants the increase in costs will be shared rather than if it were a sole tenant that had to absolve the costs.
In an ideal world yes it would be good to have ownership of our own modern ground but the world is not ideal and the situation post lockdown again as alluded to by AP is that the KC/MKM is the more sensible and stable option currently.
