I get why some people are a bit dubious about JA, but, given what was available and his talent, it is a bit of good news in my opinion. The guy absolutely killed us in the Derby last year and his kicking game is the best in SL, according to many. I also don't get why people want rid of Sao, for me he is a very good prop who is being used wrongly as a second rower because of our problems. I wonder if we may actually play Okunbor on the wing at some point? His strike rate in the NRL isn't shabby and his size should be an advantage if JA kicks to him, All in all I think Myler has done well, get big Chris back and we will have two strike front rowers with Ashworth and Sao as the grafters, Sign another back rower and a centre and we'll be halfway decent.
Can't believe how many people are getting obsessed with this, just a bit of derby banter, he could probably stay at Catalans, stay at Rovers and sure he would have other options, but he has choose us.
People also need to read the new marquee rules, he could be 60k and be the local marquee player, it doesn't mean he is on massive money.
I read an article a few months ago where someone from RL commercial said there are 20 marquee players in SL. Lots of fans seemed confused by it wondering how so many clubs could afford them and which players justify these huge salaries. It showed how there is a fair bit of misunderstanding out there about how the rules work. Clubs could classify a club trained player as marquee if they pay him £51k (just as you could if you pay a federation trained player £101k or an overseas player £151k). Clubs may as well nominate players within their squad as 'marquee' irrespective of whether only £1k is removed from their cap spend or £100k+. It provides that bit more flexibility if and when clubs choose to take advantage of it.

I'll be honest, I had no idea it worked that way until very recently.

I wouldn't personally want to use 4 quota spots on forwards which in Sao, Ese'ese, Pele and then Satae (if we resign him), we need some quality and steel in the back row, probably another 9 and a centre at the very least. Still not convinced that Trueman and Abdul will make more 50% of games based on their injury records over the past few seasons.so may well need another half. I cant see CArlos getting a renewel so likely have one more spot and would hope Okunbor isn't here for 2025 as he really has shown very little and just seems to be another Evans sadly.
Personally I don’t think abdull is unfit . He plays 80 minutes without much issues in the French heat ….. he does however look overweight , when he first went on loan to rovers while at hull , he slimmed down a hell of a lot (under Tim sheens if I remember correct) so he can slim down but I don’t think he is “unfit “ just overweight .

That's totally incorrect.
To be classed as a marquee payer a player must be earning a salary of at least £175,000. They can be paid infinitely above this i.e. George Williams on 300k+...but it is at this figure that the allowances come into force i.e. it would count as only £50k on the cap for JA as a 'homegrown player'...but he has to be actually paid at least £175k for this to kick in.
So JA, Trueman and Asiata (225k) are been paid a minimum of £575k between them but showing as only £300k on the cap.
The club also get a dispensation of £100k for producing the required club trained players but all other players count in full towards the £2.1m.
Some players (manly young and/or local) are therefore going to have to be paid peanuts...which is where the trouble begins.

Thank you - Il eat humble pie on that one. Hadn't seen the note on the minimum £175k spend.

Yes your right, Tim Sheen's got him in great shape, probably the best shape I've seen him in, but played him as a centre on a few occasions too for some reason. I'm guessing he will have been in good shape at London too as he played most games for them, and didn't have a bad injury record (until he came back up north)
