Re: Shopping list for 2024 : Mon Jun 12, 2023 3:33 pm
This season was seen by most fans as our free hit season with recruitment for 2024 a priority so that we could be competing again as a top team.
Well personally i think its all gone tits up with the club now playing catch up and finding it difficult to attract players from both a financial point of view and its lack of success on the field.
We are woefully weak in the forwards and losing Swift is another major blow.
My guess is our ultra professional media department will announce something following the Saints game as if we lose it will be seen as a sweetener and if we win it will be good news following good news

There's gonna be some moanathon on here if we get beat Saturday
I'd expect mid-June 2023 until early Feb 2024.
Gonna be a painful road. For sure.

There's no panic.

For all we know the club may have deals sorted that haven't been announced or even rumoured. Smith hinted at this the other day.

If players like Trout are so set in their ways that they don't want to move a hundred miles or less then maybe they aren't the sort of motivated players we need. Plenty of others have in the past and plenty more will in the future despite what the usual doom mongers say.

Patience is a virtue few on here possess. Let’s try to be positive, at least until we know what’s happening regards recruitment. As far as I’m concerned, this thread is a load of boll*cks. Trying to second guess who we’ve signed is like trying to predict Wakey’s next win.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if AP had already doubts about BH through last season and when TS became available the die was fast so to speak.

It’s certainly not out the realms of fantasy to suggest that TS was already studying the squad and planning for 2024 even before the season had ended.
It’s clear that there has been a value placed on current players in the squad and any renewals are based on this.
TS has often spoken about getting value out of the players and it’s not hard to see we’ve not had that for a long time.
Reading between the lines the same logic applies to any new recruitment in that the club sees a certain value in a player and are sticking to it. I’d dare say the offers are very reasonable in comparison to other clubs though while we may miss out on some players we will have players that are here for things other than money.

I think we as fans just need to be patient and let TS continue to reinvigorate the club and squad. For me we have seen more improvement under TS short tenure so far than we’ve seen since 2018 through to 2022 to have some form of confidence that they club will get more right than wrong between now and the start of the 2024 season.

Then again it could all be total and utter b0ll0x

We didn't announce Hoy while mid July. Sutcliffe and Dwyer were announced in August. Clifford was end of October.

Let's not panic just yet

Getting the most out of the cap is key.

Itl benefit us in the long term not panicking and paying over the odds for every player were linked too.

Id hazard a bet that tony smith can identify better quality players for cheaper wages than what our compere has been handing out ŵhat you reckon bonaire?

Its a tight market with a small pool of talent, we l have to be creative, coupled with some good academy products brought through, i trust Smith to get it right.

Some are flapping weve not announced 7 signings already......

The over seas signings will probably be held back being announced due to how our marketing team operate, doesnt mean none havnt been done or agreed
