Hiku has played fullback 26 times in 200 NRL games, With the greatest spin in the World, that would suggest he's not a fullback. Or at least the highest rated coaches in the World don't think he's a fullback. That's not to say he won't do a decent job in our much inferior competion, but the "round holes fanaticism" seems at least partially justified. Evalds similarly has played wing 28 times in 197 games, which again - suggests he's an out and out fullback.
But it’s not like Rovers are trying to convert either into a prop. Hiku hasn’t primarily been used a fullback, but it’s hardly alien to him. Among Rovers fans too, there seems a wilful confusion when it’s a pretty simple situation of Hiku replacing Coote, Gildart replacing SKD and Evalds possibly coming in for Ryan. It might not work out but it seems pretty conventional, imo.
I’m also just a bit weary about a few comments i’ve seen, in different places, that players should only play in their best positions. If a team’s third best available centre is, despite primarily being a centre, a better winger than their second best available winger, you play that more natural centre on the wing. Then… Corey Hall, long screed about confirmation bias etc.
