I don't think he was the only one that gave up to be fair!
Performing well in August/September seems to have eluded most of the squad for about 10 years...but there was a downing of tools IMO and that doesn't sit well with me.
Also we are told he hasn't settled but who's to say it isn't just that Catalans aren't more demanding than our holiday camp atmosphere training??
Decent player abdull , but we need pace all over the team including in the half’s . Can’t see us having satae and Pele in the same Team. Heard rovers been linked with Damien cook too, be a great signing if true , type of hooker we should be targeting if available.
 He won't be anywhere near that, anyway if 150k doesn't count on the cap and we have someone putting the money in from outside, does it matter.
Agree with you though, needs to lose a couple of stone, wonder how he pre season was effected at Rovers with what went on. Would need a big pre season, and that's dependent on a new SC team.
Of course it matters if we could spend it elsewhere and get more out of the player
Don't you have to be paying a min of £175k a season to take advantage of the marquee rule?

Absolutely no chance of Cook, been a bit off form but won't be coming to SL for a couple more years.

No that's the overseas quota, so for Asista only 175k will count on the cap, Trueman will be 150k, Abdul only 50k, so he could be on 80k, only 50k would count.

Can't find anything about what you are actually supposed to be paying a player for it to count, just this on the RFL site:
Clubs will now be permitted up to three Marquee Players (up from two), but only if at least one of them is Federation Trained.
Whereas previously all Marquee Players were counted as £150,000 on a club’s salary cap, with the exception of Club-Trained players who counted as £75,000, now Club-Trained Marquee Players will count as £50,000; Federation-Trained Marquee Players will count as £100,000; and Non-Federation Trained Marquee Players will remain valued at £150,000 in salary cap calculations.
So this makes it sound like you can include anyone as a marquee to me as long as they are earning above the threshold for the category they meet.
The allowance that HDM/HU8 HFC are talking about taking advantage of is the club trained MARQUEE allowance...the club already utilises it's home grown allowances to the max, there is no further advantage to Abdul salary cap wise unless he is a marquee (only 50k on cap)...so yes it would appear that Abdul would complete the marquee player trio.
Risky strategy with no real pay-off.
It’s not really risky it’s just a poor strategy. Our marquee players will be Trueman, Asiata and Abdull. Compare that to the quality of marquee players at other clubs and it means we are either doing it on the cheap or just another example of terrible salary cap management. There’s also question marks over all 3 players injury record or age. Pearson was quick to allude to this as been our biggest problem this season having big earners Trueman and Carlos on the sidelines.
It also means that the expected top quality NRL 7, 9 or centre talked about weeks ago now isn’t going to happen as we’ve filled these gaps with English players assuming O’Connor is the new 9. Fair enough we might have a few quota spots for some forwards, but realistically without any marquee money and the gap between NRL and SL salaries we’ll be limited to reserve graders and fringe players. It could work but we’ve not had great luck going down this route with Evans, Okunbor, Pele, Hoy etc in recent years.
Very rarely do SL clubs sign top quality NRL players, especially in positions such as 7 or 9.
The best player IMO is French who was a fringe player, so was Mago, Misk hardly played.
Ipapa another example, never played in the NRL.
Heard O Connor isn't happening, so can still bring in a centre, Hooker and backrower with Carlos, Hoy and Ockunbor's spot. We will certainly have the cap space.
More worried we could have 4 quota props, but hope at least one of them is released.
