Watson has always been the same, said similar things when players left Salford. He's making out someone has made Ashworth a mega contract offer but realistically he probably wants to play regularly. He's got better potential than a pudding like Josh Jones (especially if he's got to travel more then the length of his street).

Watson has a huge ego for somebody who has zero trophy's to his name as a coach

I really enjoy long walks especially when they are taken by people I don't like!

Jones gets homesick every time Huddersfield are in the oppositions 40.

Hopefully Ashworth will be here shortly which will help in terms of adding a little bit of size this season and benefit us moving forward.

Ashworth is a great signing for Hull, if you’re an opposition fan.

I know it a tight market but as suggested if we are supposed to have offered Ashworth a regular place in the 17 its as exciting as watching Britains got talent
We are still running with Small lightweight forwards like Lane,Cator,Fash and Brown in our 17 so if our overseas forward acquisitions are not sustantial in terms of quality and size then we may as well say goodbye to the 2024 season.
One in one out for Satae,is no different to what we have now.
Think we should forget about a nine and concentrate on bringing in 2 front rows and a second row to give us some size and hopefully the go forward we need from the forwards which we are so badly missing now

If we are to forget about a 9 who is going to play there?
Dwyer and Lovodua both leaving and possibly Balmforth too and Houghton possibly retiring.
Even if Houghton plays on which i have a feeling he will and Balmforth does stay, we still need to be targeting a quality 9.

While he's not Alex Walmsley size, Ashworth isn't small.

Ashworth to replace Evans, with an overseas middle to replace Satae.

Disagree on a 9. Should be our top priority

The more I think abour recruitment the more I think we should look at what Mcrae did in 2002-2004 which led to the sucess Kear and Sharp then had. We picked up players like Dowes, Raynor and Whiting from reserves and championship and players not in the limelight like McMenemy while giving lots of game time to young local players like Horne, King and Cooke. The bulk of the squad was young and determined.

The big challenge now of course is that there are no Jason Smith's or Swains heading over from the NRL to add leadership and that flash of class. That will need to come from a young Aussie/Kiwi who hasnt had much of a chance in the NRL.

Re: Shopping list for 2024 : Thu Jun 01, 2023 7:33 pm
I think part of the problem is since the days of Horne, King, Cooke and Yeamo there hasn't been anyone from Hull with their class and gone on to represent GB in test series vs Aus/NZ.

We also only seem to be able to produce players who are small especially in the forwards, when compared to teams like Leeds and Wigan, we can't seem to produce an Oledjski (spelling) or a Havard/Byrne/Nsemba size wise. Players like Fash, Lane and Cator are great but ultimately not big enough to become top class international forwards.
