The HDM put together a list of the signings the current Hull FC coach made while at his previous club.

https://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/sport/r ... th-7120662

Just for ease of reference… although i can’t immediately work out how the list is ordered, if it is at all. Not chronological or alphabetical, anyways.

Ahhh… this undermines my efforts to be seen as staying on topic:

Just forgetting Ethan Ryan, Rowan Milnes, Elliot Minchella, Matty Storton, Jordan Abdull, Matt Parcell, Luis Johnson, Ryan Hall, Sam Wood, PLT, SKD, Coote, George King

He's also gave a debut to Mikey Lewis.

Smith left you in a very good place with a competitive squad.

Not all coaches signings work out. Even Holbrook signed Joseph Paulo and Woolf signed Joel Thompson.

And nobody has said he is, but his addition would add to the squad, you can't have world beaters in every position and you can only play 17 each week. In a salary cap sport it's about maximising the cap and getting value which is what the clubs that have been successful have done well.

Have we even got a top super league player barring Clifford ?

We need to start adding quality not squad fillers

Not said we have but we need improvements in our squad players as much we need some top quality too. I think Tindall for example is an upgrade on Wynne without spending or tying up a lot of cap space.
As you stated before we have far too many mediocre players at least now under TS we seem to be improving the balance and overall quality of the playing squad.

Clifford wasn't a top SL player when he signed and now he's looking like one. Most of Saints stars have been good young players converted into quality SL players. The tactic of going out and blowing loads of money on established stars very rarely works in the short term, and can be disastrous in the long term. Identifying potential is the best way forward.

Might be a load of balls but someone has mentioned Liam Watts online.... wonder if him and Taylor get on.

Can't see it given the seemingly younger direction we are looking to go in

I’d doubt Watts would be on the radar, he was great while with us but hadn’t looked great last or this season and as you say he doesn’t fit with the direction we are going in terms of culture and younger squad.
Very rarely works as we’ve seen, we only have to look as recently as Fonua and we seem to have learned lessons.

Pretty mixed bag that lot, we did really well from Bradford in the early Smith years and a lot of that was down to John Bastian being there, was a loss when he left. Abdull coming was pretty much all done by Sheens who had taken him under his wing, FC not letting him come to us meant he had to spend a year in London and Sheens was gone by the time he came back.
No doubt he left us in a better position than when he took over but to his hit rate on signings is about 50/50
