Agree with this, how many of those tackles were 2nd or 3rd man in, still counts as a tackle. Also I’d suggest that he made that many tackles as teams are targeting him because of his flat footed defending. Paul Vaughan made about 20m post contact meters off one carry with Lane and hoy in the tackle.
Vaughan was excellent but he was in a dominant bigger pack
Playing with one man extra.
Lane was in a beaten pack with young kids…
Some of the young kids were brushed off tackles in the later stages.
If Lane only made 34 tackles, instead of 54,
then who would have have made the other 20 tackles for him..
If he’s made 2nd man or third man tackle, then would the attacking player have released the ball out of the tackle..?
He’s not been targeted , he’s having to do extra defensive work with Houghton missing and cator too.
If we apply your reasoning then does that mean teams target Houghton every game when he makes 50 tackles.
It really does baffle me why posters keep criticising the kid.
He’s a hull local lad playing for the shirt and giving it a go.
Yes we all know he’s not international class but looking at the squad, I can’t see many “ international class “ players..
