Hardly think Hodgson would be praising Mau and several others like Ligi Sao if he wanted him to go.
Mau is our form second row and none of the others come close.

He's 33, one of our top earners and has picked up his fair share of niggles in the 3 years He's been here.

HDM state we haven't offered him a deal. As good as he's been this season the club think we can use his salary elsewhere.

If we use his salary to get Bevan French over the line or a younger 7, someone like Dean Hawkins who's been made a available to SL, its worth it

Hope you are right about Ma'u. Hodgson may not want him to go but we might not be in a position to hold on to him and that's why he hasn't been offered a new deal.

Letting your form players go is always a problem
A second row of Savelio,Lane and Griffin is hardly inspiring
The fitness concern should be Savelio

If we are to let mau go then I'd be tempted to use ligi in the second row as I think we are ok for props

We don't know what goes on behind closed doors regarding fitness deals etc. We can all guess. It's a shame if we let Mau go but imagine the outcry by some if we signed him for another year and he spent most of it on the sidelines. We have got to trust Hodgson etc for who to let go and who to sign up.

Must be a blow to the coach to see one of your form players leave

I can’t see a scenario where Hodgson would not have had some input in the decision. If he wanted him to stay, he would be.

Maybe a club has offered him two years and we’re not prepared to?

Better to let a player go a year too early than a year too late

I think he’s been great, but we need to start bringing our young players through at some point. Young and British seems to be the mantra coming out of the club.

As has been said no one knows what goes on within the club. For me on this seasons form I’d have offered a years extension but that’s all due to his age. Maybe he’s been offered 2 years elsewhere and we aren’t prepared to risk offering 2 year deal. He may be returning to NRL for a 1 year deal with the dolphins for example or possibly be retiring and doesn’t to announce it yet who knows. We will certainly need a decent replacement for him though.

Will be a shame to see Ma'u depart especially given his recent form but it may turn out to be for the best. Savelio and Lane are a decent set of second rowers or perhaps the club have identified a younger back rower either from UK or the NRL.

Ma'u has missed 17 out of 60 games since he joined so if the club have decided not to offer him a new deal that may be in their thoughts.

Not to bothered by us releasing Mau, I think before his recent form he's been pretty steady without being spectacular, certainly didnt live upto the hype when he arrived and I'd say based on his performances were maybe over paying abit on wages.

I'm in no way saying he's been poor, but I think when you look at getting the most out the salary cap, we could probably make a signing that would do a similar job on probably a good bit less.

I think we may see the club look to save on some wages this year and look to repay some debt, players like Mau and Reynolds who we can save alot on. We also have a good batch of youngsters coming through at good time. Which will definitely help, what with tightening of purse strings across super league

Tightening of the purse strings is probably more of a reason to release Mau than form, age or possible future injuries.
He is super fit and does big minutes on the field.
Steady without been spectacular in your words but who in the FC second row has been spectacular?
Mau is certainly an upgrade on Savelio,Lane, and Griffin and i think he will be greatly missed if we go next season without a decent replacement or has been mentioned move Ligi Sao into the second row.
Losing Reynolds,Bowden,Johnstone Shaul and possibly Gale should save some cash
