The problem is we don't really know what we need at the minute. Radford, Hodgson and Smith were all very different coaches with very different philosophies and all three failed miserably (well, Radford obviously had a period of success but things had descended into a shambles before he left). On paper Smith should have been a great fit, but he turned out to be the worst of the lot, and he himself is proof that just because a coach has been successful at one club that isn't necessarily going to translate to everywhere he goes. Lam himself had a very disappointing time at Wigan before he found a role that suited him at Leigh. It's a perfectly valid opinion to think Lam wouldn't have been the right man for the job, even if you disagree with that.

All we can really say with certainly is whoever ends up with the Hull job has a huge challenge on their hands.

If you really don't know what you need, you really are in the $h!t.

You mean when French and field was out for the season?

Personally I think you're in denial what really is required. You've been on a suck it and see journey with failure, and you're just digging a bigger hole for yourself. I'm not having a go at your club, I'm just stating facts. You have a massive hill to climb...Good luck.

Just seen on one of the Brisbane Broncos forums.
Talking about Cartwright and being linked to FC. They all have a very high opinion of him, even the Titan fans charming in on the conversation.
Then as I read on, they are saying they're sad to see him go, wishing him the best at FC etc etc
Now I don't know if they're taking the reports as he's on his way or if they've heard something or know something.

I don't think it's denial as such, more a case of not knowing what direction the club is going in. As fans we can probably talk for ages about what we want and need and probably form a consensus on what direction we want the club to take. But we're not the ones in charge and we don't have a say in what the club will actually do.

The problem in the past is that when things go wrong at the club, they tend to rip up what they were doing and go for something completely different. A case in point is that I recall during Peter Gentle's time in charge that Adam Pearson was using Huddersfield as an example and model for what we were trying to build but when Gentle was sacked and replaced by Lee Radford, the model template became Wigan. So not only did we change styles of coach but also the clubs philosophy. And we have repeated this ever since.

I agree that we have failed, are in a big hole and have a massive hill to climb. I think all FC fans can see that and I think that all rugby fans in general can see that (some even revelling in our current demise). The biggest thing that Myler has to do right now is figure out what our identity is as he said in one of his first interviews. And then he's got to find a coach that suits that identity. That coach needs to be given time and patience to deliver but also, if that coach ends up failing again, that identity plan has to stick. The club has to know what they are trying to build so that even if they end up with the wrong personnel to start with, the plan remains in place.

Using football as an example, this weekend sees Jurgen Klopp leave Liverpool but by all accounts his successor has a very similar philosophy to Klopp so the club seem to have decided that they want to keep on the path they have been on because they have identified an identity that's been successful for them. Contrast that to Man Utd for example and there has seemed to be a lack of identity there since Fergie left with every manager that's followed bringing a different style and philosophy with him and mixed results.

Back in Hull.

The real test for Lam will be this season and next, still no academy players, signing the likes of Mcintosh, Dywer and McNamara worry me.

I was very 50/50 on Lam coming here, I don't think he ever planned to come, agent played a blinder.

I'm really liking this Cartwright rumour.

I'm going to cling to it for a while.

2022 - Clean sweep of the championship.
2023 - Challenge cup winners & top 6 play offs. Lam coach of the year & 5 players in the SL dream team.
2024 - poor start due to many injuries to key players - Key players coming back & now turning a corner. top 6 is still achievable. Lam signs contract until end of 2027. The future is bright, the future is the Leopards
2025-2027 - Leigh will spend full cap with all 3 allowed marquee players to come in.

Whilst Leigh are going in the right direction, Hull Fc are going in the opposite direction.

For me, Lam has already passed the test. A few scoops today to celebrate Lammy's commitment to Leigh. :thumb:

They’ve not had an academy licence, although they’re pushing for one. Is that even something for which a first team coach is very responsible? If you’re not a fan his recruitment record that’s a bit of a worry, given that Hull’s is now following it so closely, having just changed the best before date.

Edit: link already provide by previous poster

Fwiw, I don’t think Lam would have been a great fit for Hull. That said, I think his re-signing for Leigh is good news for them.
