Let's put the new stadium rumours to bed once and for all, even with grants, money from the council IF they sold it to allam (& it won't be the mega millions some are thinking) and monies from any co-investor such as a supermarket etc
We would require at least £25M just to build a decent stadium, probably a lot more if you look at comparative costs.
Even with say £20M borrowed over 30 years that will cost you £1.2-£1.3M/yr at commercial interest rates
That doesn't then include insurances, stewarding, wear & tear maintenance, damage replacement, and other contingencies needed that WILL be in the several hundreds of thousands.
And frankly I think people are in cloud cockoo land if they think we can generate enough income to remotely cover the costs of a new stadium build as well as spend right up to the SC.
Yes we might be able to get other tenants in but that is no guarantee there either.
Basically what we pay to the SMC is a good deal for us with minimal risk, I'm not saying it is the best deal, but we have protection against many things that most RL clubs don't.
