Seems like Wood isn't coming after all
Again not particularly bothered about him, would have been a decent squad player, wouldn't get in our side at centre and not sure about him as first choice winger, rather have a younger quicker player.
I'd rather have Tindall than Wood, younger, quicker and cheaper and for the first time in ages I think we have a top class young winger coming through, who should debut next season if not this season. Sign Tindall and we have Litten, Barron, Martin and McIntosh as wingers
The one thing that concerns me is the player pool, look pretty small and seems to be getting smaller. My fear is going with a squad that is too similar to this seasons.
Spend money on the forwards has to be the key.
I'm a bit like you Dave re Sam Wood, he's an ok player but in all honesty would most likely have been a squad player rather than a certain starter and that would have likely hindered or blocked the progress of the likes of Barron, Martin, Wocokecoke. Was there any hard evidence that Wood was even a real target in our recruitment other than TS speaking well of him when asked?
Also with a small player pool to pick from no doubt money can be better spend and utilised rather than paying over the odds or getting in to a bidding war for a player that is just ok. If Wood was really as good as some from the other side would have us believe then they'd renew his deal, so even at his current club he may be an expensive squad player?
AP has invested in youth since he took over and hopefully that investment will start to pay off for the club in the near future
I would say that from what I've seen and heard so far regards to recruitment it would seem there is a plan behind the scenes and a calmness rather than knee jerk signings and deals that are too long just to fill the squad places that we've seen before.
