| Difficult to name only one but I'd probably plump for Jason Smith. But then I'd agonise over Knocker, Keegan, Whiteley, the NZ boys, Schofield, Vaikona, Toppo, Sterling and others I've probably overlooked! (Jacko, Cleal etc etc)

| On a purely selfish note I'd pick either Knocker or Sterling; too tough to call for me.
For the team I'd want one of either Leuluai, Schofield or Barnett.

The likes of Mick Harrison and Trevor Skerrett would have beasted Carvell if they played/trained the same as modern day pros. I'd have Harrison in my 13 any day of the week.
Overall though if I had to have one player from all that i've seen I'd have to go with Topliss, skill, bravery and tactically superior. I reckon the only reason he didn't get so many caps for GB is that he played for Wakey at a time when they were unsuccessful & unfashionable.

I agree with everything you say about Toppo,a complete player and a born leader.Seen some great players at Hull over the last 40--50 years but he was one of the best leaders.Remember when he finished playing for one of the Aussie sides, they offered him a blank cheque to stay, not many British players can say that.

| I asked my Dad the same question. He's 80 and has been following Hull since the war.
Without hesitation he said Bruce Ryan. A flying Australian winger who beat people for fun.
He played for Hull for three seasons form 1947-1950, before Leeds bought him for a World Record fee of £4,500.
No doubt tipped off by an external source!!!
