apart from Salford, it looks like all the other 11 sl clubs are financially stable and don't need to sell players unless a club offers stupid money, going to be difficult to recruit british born players if clubs dont need to sell anymore.
When have clubs ever really sold players in the modern era anyways? It’s quite rare, I know Salford sold Ackers and Croft last year but that was again because of financial difficulties. You only get one high profile sale of a player every few seasons at best. 20 odd years ago maybe was more common when the Sky money was first introduced, the likes of Bradford and Saints buying Vaikona and Sculthorpe etc but hardly seems to happen nowadays.
We bought Sneyd for a substantial fee, again that was rare though and was 10 years ago, and I’m sure at the time Salford were throwing money about themselves under Koukash they just didn’t rate him rather then having to sell him.
And now Ruan, honestly seems Rovers have no interest in youth development or Peters isn't bothered, wants to gamble on short term success.
I know right, imagine picking up young, cheap British players that could turn out to be absolute gems in the game at the detriment of playing academy players who obviously just are not ready or good enough? bonkers!
It seems to get you all very wound up on here about our youth set up, lets see how you go in a couple of years when you can actually afford decent players and how many youth come through for you, you have a history of bigging up young players to be future superstars and many of them simply fall from grace very early.

Whose wound up, it sounds like you, you early post on here, but are straight in this post.
We could have easily signed Ruan and Kershaw, but we'd rather play Staveley and Martin, I'd bet these two both go on to be better players than those two.
Kershaw will be 26 next season, thats hardly young and I'd doubt he will be that cheap.
I do agree we have talked up our academy in the past, and these players play at international level amd our youth sides are regularly top 4, but we have been poor developing them into SL players, something I think the club knew and it's not surprising when you look at the staff we have employed the last few years.

We’re not talking about gems though. We’re talking about Richardson, Kershaw and the God awful Ruan.

If you look at it the other way though we deemed the likes of Lewis, Adbull, Litten and Hadley ‘not good enough’ when we had a semi decent side, to our detriment long term. FWIW I’m not sure Rovers will ever have to produce loads of players, McNichol has deep enough pockets but your current side only has a small window to win something, you’ll have a big rebuild at some point soon you’ll have to get right. We know that from experience.

It’s more about stretching the salary cap, there’s a new rule been introduced for players under a certain age with no club if you sign them then their wage doesn’t count so we now can stretch the £2.1m across 24 players instead of 25, small margins i know but it’s risk free, he seemed to show a lot of promise at Doncaster and went to Leeds and will of been under a poor coaching set up at them and i dare say yourselves last year, With Fishwick and Tennison it alters nothing they have to go play well in the championship on loan or duel reg but effectively could and probably are infront of Ruan in the pecking order it just means we can stretch a extra 30-40k out the cap
