The problem is that, unlike the period 1974 - 97, everybody's fixture list is different in terms of who you play over the course of the year. In 2024, for instance, both rovers and Warrington had a third game against both London and ourselves where as Wigan didn't (not sure who their loop games were against).
Having the league winners being declared Champions only works with an even fixture list across the competition, i.e. the 'football' model. We would need to scrap the play-offs and go back to a pre-SL league structure in order to make the 'league winners' the correctly crowned champions and I'm not sure the clubs are in favour of that.
